Poker Tournaments at Resorts Casino

Resorts Casino Poker Room in Atlantic City offers regularly-scheduled poker tournaments. They offer regular tourneys at the following days/times (please note that these are general guidelines; sometimes the buy-ins for these tourneys might be a smaller amount):

For the above tournaments that are $40 buy-ins, you get ``T200'' in chips ($200 worth of tourney chips); for the tournaments that are $100 buy-ins, you get ``T300'' in chips.

General Information about these Tournaments

You should register for the tournaments as early in the day as possible to be sure to get a seat (I've never had a problem). Then, be sure to arrive a half hour before the tourney starts to get your seat (these are assigned randomly).

The maximum number of players for either the 7 Stud or Limit Holdem tourneys is 72. Generally, regardless of the number of participants, the top 10 places pay (so if you make it to the final table, you're ``in the money'').

The buy-ins are $X+$Y where ``X'' is the amount that gets contributed toward the purse, and ``Y'' is the amount the casino rakes for each player. Example: if 50 players sign up for the $40+$10 7-Stud tourney, the purse is 50 times $40 == $2000, and the house rakes $500 for running the tourney. There are no rakes during the tournament, and dealer tips are not permitted during play.

The top finisher of the tournament gets between 38 and 50 percent of the total purse depending on which tournament is being played and on the total number of participants. See the specific
payoff schedule for more information.

100% of Buy-ins will be Awarded as Prizes

[The following statements apply to both Texas Holdem and Seven Card Stud tournaments at Resorts, except that the maximum number of players for Seven Card Stud tournaments is 80, not 72]

Rules and Regulations

[The following Rules and Regulations apply to both Texas Holdem and Seven Card Stud tournaments at Resorts. Certain rules apply only to one game or the other as noted]

  1. Tournaments will consist of ongoing elimination format ("freeze-out"). Each participant will be given an equal, fixed amount of tournament chips, and when that player is out of chips, they are eliminated. There will be no provision for re-entry. All buy-ins from the tournament will be returned in the form of prizes. Prizes will be calculated as a percentage of total buy-ins and will be based on particular winning positions.

  2. All tournament chips must be kept in sight at all times. Any chips not visible are ineligible for play and may be deemed a violation of Tournament Rules subject to disqualification.

  3. All players must participate in every hand as long as chips remain in their bankroll. Players are required to post antes, forced bets and/or blinds as necessary by their cards and position at the table. If for any reason a player is not present to post such bets, Tournament Personnel will exact the correct amount from the player's bankroll and place it in the pot. A player's hand is still live if the player returns to the table by the time it is their turn to voluntarily act.

  4. Players with any amount of chips in front of them, even if insufficient for an ante, blind, or forced bet, will receive cards and will get action on whatever chips they have. Standard Resorts' House Rules regarding completing, calling or raising a partial ("All-in") bet will apply.

  5. In Seven Card Stud Stages designated Dealer Ante only, a dealer puck will rotate around the table and only the player designated the dealer will post the ante. In all other stages all players will post the ante. The puck will begin in seat #1 and move clockwise one player position at the end of each hand. A player going "All-in" from this Dealer-Ante position is only eligible to win back their ante.

  6. In Seven Card Stud the first two betting rounds will ALWAYS be at the lower structure of the game, all remaining betting rounds will be at the upper structure, thus negating the 4th St. option in tournament play.

  7. For tournament games with blind bets, the following rules shall apply:

    1. As tables lose players, the button will always move to the seat of the most recent little blind.

    2. If the natural big blind goes all in and cannot satisfy the full amount of that big blind, the next player in must satisfy the full amount of the big blind; also, this player is eligible to make a full raise of the big blind amount.

    3. When consolidating tables, play will cease at all tables (after the completion of hands already in progress) until players have been relocated into their new positions. A player moving into a seat that was dealt a hand on the previous round shall receive a hand immediately, and assume any obligations or benefits of that seat. The only exception will be a player moving into a seat that was not in play on the previous round and which is between the button and the little blind. In this case the player is dealt out until the button passes.

    4. When a three-handed game loses a player, the player due for the big blind must take it, even if this means relocating the button. When two players are left, the little blind will always be on the button.

  8. If in late stages of a tournament (i.e., two (2) tables remaining) Management feels that players are "stalling for time", Tournament Personnel will have the right to have the tables play "hand-for-hand" to ensure an equitable elimination process. If the two tables become imbalanced by three (3) or more players, a player selected by random draw will be moved into the short game.

  9. If two (2) or more players vying for prize money are eliminated during the same hand, they will share equally in the appropriate prize distribution for that (those) finish position(s). This would also apply in the "hand-for hand" scenario described above in rule 8.

  10. When chip conversion becomes practical, it will be accomplished by Tournament Personnel based on the following exchange schedule: (Chip conversion may occur during ongoing tournament play, and/or during designated rest breaks.)

    1. Three (3) or more chips of a denomination will be exchanged for one (1) chip of the next higher denomination.

    2. Two (2) or fewer chips of a denomination will be forfeited.

  11. Any collusion among players is prohibited. The official tournament language is English and conversing in any other language is prohibited. No communication during ongoing play will be permitted between players and spectators. Anyone guilty of any disruptive behavior may be disqualified, and anyone caught cheating will be disqualified, thus forfeiting all claims to any prize money. Any prize money that may have been won by such an individual will be equally divided among the other players entitled to prize money.

  12. Tips to dealers will not be permitted during tournament play. Tips to dealers will be accepted in cash or value gaming chips only after a participant is eliminated or the tournament is completed.

  13. The decision of the Tournament Director is final.

  14. With the exception of those modifications herein noted, all standard N.J.A.C. regulations and Resorts' House Rules shall apply.
