Kennedy Lemke's Statement of Faith
"If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God"
1 John 4:15 (NIV)
There's hardly a more public place to proclaim one's faith than the internet! That's
what I choose to do in this page: to proclaim my faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God,
our risen Lord and Saviour. Jesus is my Lord.
I have been a Christian all my life. I was brought up by a wonderful loving Christian
family in the Methodist Church, was baptized, and attended classes that eventually
led to my confirmation as a believer in my teenage years. I later attended a Lutheran
college in Minnesota, where I additionally had a spiritual re-birth ("born again")
experience around the end of 1980.
Here's what I believe:
- I believe that Jesus Christ is God. He was born of the virgin Mary, lived,
was crucified and buried, then rose again from the dead and ascended into Heaven.
- I believe that Christ died to cover the sins of man in his blood, and that our
sins are forgiven when we accept Christ, confess our sins and repent, and ask for forgiveness.
- I believe in the Holy Trinity: God the Father, creator of Heaven and Earth; Jesus
Christ, his only Son, who died for our sins and rose from the dead and ascended into
heaven; the Holy Spirit, who gives us spritual strength, and helps us in our spiritual lives.
- I believe that faith in Jesus Christ is the only way that man can commune with God:
"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me.'" John 14:6 (NIV)
- I believe that one is saved and becomes a Christian through faith, acceptance of
Christ as God, and belief that our sins are forgiven through Him and by no other way.
Many churches today teach that "being a good person" or "performing good
works" is the way to be a Christian and enter Heaven, but I do not believe that:
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves,
it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)
