(Speed Draw)
Speed draw is a fun game on prizegames.com that (roughly) simulates
video poker.
Gameplay
When the game starts,
you are dealt a 5-card "poker" hand. The object of the game
is to make the best poker hand possible by keeping or discarding
anywhere from 0 to 5 cards from the hand you are dealt.
Cards/Card Tracking
The prizegames.com Speed Draw deck consists of 60 cards: 52
cards from a "standard" deck (13 cards in each of four "suits"),
plus 8 (yikes!) wild cards! (If you're not convinced that the
deck is really a regular 52-card deck with 8 wild cards, you can
check out my
Speed Draw card tracking program
which will help you keep track of which cards have been dealt
in the current deck.
There are several differences between the Speed Draw deck and
a standard deck of cards:
- There are 8 wild cards in the Speed Draw deck
- Speed draw uses four differently-colored "suits":
triangles, circles, squares,
and stars instead of the standard diamonds, spades, hearts, and clubs
- Instead of using Jack, Queen and King, Speed Draw uses the
card values 11, 12, and 13
I'm unsure why prizegames chose to change the suits and use
values for the face cards, except that the program designers
probably felt it was easier to evaluate hands quickly using
these features instead of the equivalent from a regular deck.
There are two "rounds" to each game: that is, you make your
way through two entire decks of cards.
