(Word Master)

Word Master is a fun word game to play on prizegames.com. If you like the television show Wheel of Fortune, you'll love playing Word Master!

Game Play and Categories

Game play is fairly straight-forward. In each game, you are presented with three puzzles that you must solve. You guess letters in the puzzle by typing letters on your keyboard (or selecting them with your mouse). At the start of each of the three rounds in a game, you get a clue about the solution to the puzzle.

When you're ready to play, press the Play button as usual. You are first presented with a screen asking you to select a category. You should select a category that you know pretty well because the next three puzzles you'll see are clues, words, and phrases related to that topic. Here is a list of all the categories that you may see. At the beginning of each game, you are asked to choose one category out of three categories selected randomly from the following list:

Scoring Points

There are three ways to score points in Word Master:

  1. You get points for each correctly-guessed letter in the puzzle
  2. You get points at the end of each round if you completely solve the puzzle. These points are determined by taking your score for the round and multiplying it by how much time is left on the clock.
  3. If you completely solve the puzzle and you have not guessed any letters that were not in the puzzle, you also score the current Bonus value

Each letter has a point value associated with it. Here is a table showing the value of each letter (less common letters have higher values)

Letter Point Value
A 100
B 300
C 200

Here is another shorter table showing point values and all the letters associated with that value:

400 v, w

200 c, d, g, l, m, n, r, s, t, y
100 a, e, i, o, u

Table 2: Letter Point Values by value

Important point: it is important to remember that because you get points for each letter, you will score more points in a round if there are lots of letters. Therefore, try to choose categories that will tend to have puzzles with lots of letters (I have found that the categories: sports, football, and basketball tend to have longer puzzles in them).

It is also interesting to note that if you get very long puzzles, you have a better chance of solving the puzzle without incorrectly guessing any letters (so long puzzles are doubly-good because you also have a better chance of getting bonus points at the end of the round)

One final note on scoring: you can stop the clock by clicking on the Solve button, but you must then guess the remainder of the letters in the puzzle correctly, or else you will not score any more points at the end of the round. My personal experience has been that because both of my hands are on the keyboard already, the amount of time it takes me to move my hand to my computer's mouse and then click the solve button is not worth the amount of additional points I get by stopping the clock (so in general it is not worth clicking the solve key in my opinion ).

Bonus Points

The upper-left portion of the playing area shows your current score and potential bonus point earnings. If you solve the puzzle of the current round without guessing any letters that do not appear in the puzzle, you will earn additional points for the round (the number of points currently displayed in the Bonus area).

As you play games, most of the time you will probably guess some letters that don't appear in the current puzzle. Each time you guess a wrong letter, a "strike" will appear in the middle of the playing area. If you guess 6 incorrect letters in a single puzzle, you will not score any points for that round.

At the beginning of your Word Master playing session, the bonus points are set initially at 5000 points. If you get the bonus in a particular round, the bonus is then automatically re-set to this beginning level 5000 points for the next round.

Important: you win the bonus if you solve the puzzle with no incorrect letters guessed. But if you do guess an incorrect letter, the bonus value will increase for the next round. It increases by 200 points per round in free-play mode and 1000 points per round in pay-to-play mode.

This means that if you play the game for a very long time at one sitting, the bonus can grow very large. In fact, you can ensure that the bonus keeps growing each round by making sure that you guess at least one letter incorrectly (even if you know the puzzle and you could solve it with no incorrect letters).

So if you are extremely patient, you could play the game for a very long time at one sitting, then get placed into a high position on the progressive list by getting the bonus after it is very large. But you have to be very patient! And remember, if you're playing in pay-to-play mode, you use up one credit per game so going for a high place on the progressive list might not be to your benefit!
